Top 7 Netflix Upcoming Movies in 2019

Mean Streets film

Netflix are proving yet again why a membership for their services is essential to all movie fans. Here’s a list of the top 7 Upcoming Movies arriving to the streaming site in 2019.

7. Charlie & the Chocolate  (2005, Tim Burton)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (film)

Tim Burton’s brilliant (yet divisive) adaptation of Roald Dahl’s imaginative tale is coming to Netflix on July 1st.

Whilst many prefer the original Willy Wonka film from 1971, with the magnificent late Gene Wilder, Burton’s version is undeniably beautiful to look at and genuinely hilarious.

Burton’s wackiness and notorious creativity is so very present in this flick, and his frequent collaborator Johnny Depp helps bring this fun film to life.

Tip: if you watch this whilst baring in mind that Willy Wonka might be a child-killer, it becomes immediately terrifying and sadistic.

6. In the Tall Grass (2019, Vincenzo Natali)

In the Tall Grass film

One for the horror fans. Netflix have recently announced another Stephen King adaptation will be coming later this year.

We can only hope it will be as brilliant as last year’s Gerald’s Game, another Stephen King – Netflix adaptation.

5. Inglourious Basterds (2009, Quentin Tarantino)

Inglourious Basterds

This hugely controversial WWII flick will have Tarantino fans all over America extremely hyped for his highly anticipated upcoming film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Inglourious Basterds is set once upon a nightmare in Nazi-occupied France, and follows Brad Pitt’s collection of American tough guys whose job is to kill Nazi’s, collect their scalps and burn Hitler and his friends to death. This film is not for the squeamish.

This is a must watch for fans of Tarantino’s hyper-violent (FUN) style.

4. The Hangover (2009, Todd Phillips)

the hangover film

This golden-globe winning comedy is arriving on Netflix on July 1st.

Warning: It is painfully funny. This is mainly due to career-best performances from Ed Helms (best known as The Office’s angry, guitar strumming Andy Bernard), Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis.

Its brilliant stupidity will stick with you for days, like a hangover.

3. Point Blank (2019, Joe Lynch)

point blank movie

This Netflix Original action-thriller is arriving on July 12th.

It stars Anthony Mackie as an ANGRY nurse, hunting down his pregnant wife’s kidnappers. Enough said.

2. Mean Streets (1973, Martin Scorsese)

Mean Streets film

Arriving on July 1st, Netlix is gifting us an excellent Mafia film from Scorsese, the greatest director of all time.

This classic has some outstanding performances from a then-unknown Robert DeNiro and Harvey Keitel.

The film takes place in New York’s Little Italy, where Scorsese himself grew up. It follows the daily ongoings of organised violence, retribution, love and war in the 1970’s Italian-American criminal underworld.

This one is a truly underappreciated work of art.

1. The Irishman (2019, Martin Scorsese)

The Irishman movie

Coming straight to Netflix at the end of 2019, Scorsese’s highly anticipated return to the Mafia genre includes performances from the most respected names in the history of the genre: Al Pacino, DeNiro, Keitel and the marvellous Joe Pesci to name a few.

If it’s half as good as any of Scorsese’s films remotely set in the crime genre, it will be the best film of 2019.
